Varsha Bharath’s Bad Girl, featuring Anjali Sivaraman as the main character, is all set to make its world debut at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The film, presented by Vetrimaaran and Anurag Kashyap, will be part of the Tiger competition. However, director G Mohan has claimed that they misrepresented Brahmins in the film.

The teaser for Bad Girl dropped at an event in Chennai on Sunday, showcasing Anjali as Ramya, a young woman on the hunt for love but facing judgment when she gets close to someone. The film's description on the IFFR website says, “As Ramya navigates her way through high school, college, and beyond, her quest for the ideal partner is complicated by societal expectations, strict parents, unreturned feelings, and the wild chaos of her own thoughts, all wrapped up in Varsha Bharath’s cheeky and heartfelt comedy.”

The teaser stirred up some controversy, with Mohan expressing his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Showing a Brahmin girl's personal life is always a bold and fresh take for this community. What else can we expect from Vetrimaran, Anurag Kashyap, and the gang? Criticizing Brahmin parents is getting old and isn’t cool anymore. Why not focus on your own caste girls and present that to your own families first?” He’s known for directing films like Draupathi and Bakasuran.

He shared a review from director Pa Ranjith while making this statement. Ranjith's take on the film said, “I just watched #BadGirl, and it’s an incredibly bold and refreshing movie! Huge props to director #VetriMaaran for supporting such a fearless story. The film effectively highlights women's challenges and societal expectations with a fresh new wave cinema approach. Congrats #varsha!”
