Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, has been doing fairly well at the box office. Featuring Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, and R. Madhavan, the movie centers on the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre and lawyer C. Sanakaran Nair's fight against the British Empire to reveal the truth about the genocide. The actors have been receiving favorable feedback from audiences, and in the midst of this, in a recent interview, the director explained why he selected Ananya for the role.

In Kesari Chapter 2, Ananya Panday portrayed the character of Dilreet Gill, a lawyer, who aided Akshay Kumar's C. Sankaran Nair. Discussing the reasons for casting Ananya in the film, Karan shared with News18 Showsha, “I recall watching Gehraiyaan and being moved by her performance in it. It was after viewing that film that I met with her and offered her the part of Dilreet Gill. I must say that she is exceptional in Kesari Chapter 2 and has dedicated a lot of effort. ”

Highlighting Ananya's preparation for the character, the director mentioned that she took dialect lessons for more than a year. She researched the ethical guidelines for female lawyers. They also visited the Bombay High Court, where the actress observed a female lawyer performing in real-life scenarios.

Karan also disclosed, “She explored numerous literary works regarding the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. In fact, there exists a book wherein individuals have penned various poems about the massacre and calamity. That book, in a sense, became her Bible. She would take that book with her on the set. "

Further commending Ananya, the director mentioned that she embraced the character of Dilreet Gill so effectively, and the actress possesses a blend of fragility and iron will. "She revealed that and showcased them wonderfully," he remarked.

Responding to the hateful comments on social media aimed at Ananya, Karan expressed that the audience has shown her character so much affection that he prefers to focus on the positive aspects.

“Two days ago, there was a screening in Hyderabad. Some individuals sent me videos from there. The audience was applauding at her entrance scene. She was one female lawyer in a space filled with men. And that alone serves as the ideal reply to all the negative remarks,” he shared.

In response to the social media hostility in general, Tyagi acknowledged that he is open to dissent and criticism as it provides opportunities for learning. “However, I witness an abundance of unnecessary hate on social media today, which can become toxic at times. It’s unfortunate! This is the adverse impact of social media, and we must learn to coexist with it,” he said.
