The Central Board of Film Certification requested 120 cuts in the film Punjab 95, featuring Diljit Dosanjh. Following this announcement, Paramjit Kaur, the wife of Jaswant Singh Khalra, criticized the CBFC's demand, asserting that the biopic about her husband's life was created with the family's approval. She expressed her desire for the film to be shown in its original form. Recent reports indicate that Punjab 95 will be released in theatres without any alterations.

Punjab 95 to be released without any cuts?

In December 2024, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) convened a group of historians to evaluate the film's accuracy. A month later, the committee's General Secretary, Gurucharan Singh Grewal, remarked, "I have viewed the film, and it does not aim to target any individual or group. It presents the reality of Punjab in a pure and unfiltered manner. It is an emotionally moving film that brought tears to my eyes."

Punjab 95 narrates the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, who, in the 1990s, exposed widespread human rights abuses and ultimately paid the ultimate price for his pursuit of justice. His daughter, Navkiran, expressed her excitement to Mid-Day regarding the film's impending release in theatres.

"This narrative is essential, and we are thankful for its presentation. We remain hopeful that the film will be released this time," she remarked. Recently, it was reported that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had not yet granted approval for the film featuring Diljit Dosanjh.

"Following the decision of the Akal Takht and SGPC to view the film, the producers are feeling optimistic. They are now at a juncture where they are considering retaining the film in its entirety, including the original 22 cuts proposed by the CBFC," a source informed the publication.
