Jalianwallah Bagh massacre becomes a topic of debate in British Parliament
British Member of Parliament Bob Blackman has called for the United Kingdom to issue a formal apology to India regarding the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. As the 106th anniversary of this tragic event approaches, he expressed his belief that the Indian people are entitled to an official acknowledgment of the atrocities committed. "In 2019, former Prime Minister Theresa May acknowledged that this incident represents a blemish on British colonial rule in India. However, could we receive a statement from the government? The anniversary falls on April 13th this year, during our recess, so it would be appropriate for the government to issue a statement recognizing the wrongs of the past and formally apologizing to the people of India," he stated in Parliament.
Kesari: Chapter 2 reopens the dark chapter and old wounds
Akshay Kumar and R. Madhavan's film, Kesari: Chapter 2, provides an in-depth exploration of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. On April 13, 1919, General Dyer commanded his troops to open fire on a peaceful assembly of individuals enjoying a picnic at Jallianwala Bagh. This tragic event resulted in the loss of 1,500 lives and left 1,200 others injured. Additionally, Kesari: Chapter 2 draws inspiration from the narrative of C. Sankaran Nair, a lawyer who bravely confronted the British Raj to reveal the truth.
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film is set to premiere in theaters on April 18, 2025.
