The talented filmmaker, who is on a high with the massive success of Kalki 2898 AD, expressed his excitement with an Instagram story recently. “This milestone... this number... is massive for a young team like ours. But the fact that we achieved it without blood, gore, obscenity, provocative or exploitative content, means so much... A big thank you to the audience and the actors who stood behind us... Indian Cinema #repatikosam,” reads Nag Ashwin’s post.

While majority the of netizens congratulated the filmmaker for the big success, many of them felt that he was taking a direct dig at Animal, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial which hit the theatres in 2023. The movie, which features Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, received so much flak from the audiences for its highly problematic storytelling, misogynistic views it put forward, and gory violence and obscenity. The netizens feel that Nag Ashwin was taking an indirect dig at the massive success of the blockbuster film with his success post.

While many of the neutral fans are lauding the talented filmmaker for his take on such films, others feel that it is a distasteful post to make at this point. Nag Ashwin’s admirers, however, are now defending the filmmaker stating that he didn’t take a dig at the Ranbir Kapoor starrer, but just mentioned the formula commercial films of current times.
