Dhanush drives the box office success of NEEK on its opening day
Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, or NEEK for short, is a romantic comedy drama set to release in 2025, crafted by Dhanush as both writer and director. The movie stars Dhanush’s nephew, Pavish, in the main role, alongside a talented cast that includes Anikha Surendran, Matthew Thomas, Priya Prakash Varrier, Rabiya Khatoon, Ramya Ranganathan, and Venkatesh Menon, with veteran actors like Sarathkumar, Naren, and Saranya Ponvannan rounding out the ensemble.
The film premiered in theaters on February 21 and reportedly made Rs 1.15 crore on its opening day, according to Sacnilk. It debuted alongside Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon, which raked in Rs 6 crore. Still, NEEK has the weekend to attract a younger crowd to the cinemas. With Dhanush’s star power, the film received mixed reviews upon its release. The story focuses on a group of friends navigating romance and emotions, specifically aimed at the Gen Z audience.
NEEK deserves a follow-up
The conclusion of NEEK hints at a possible sequel. The final title card playfully suggests NEEK 2 - Love is in the air, which might mean Dhanush is planning to continue the characters' journeys in a follow-up film.
For those who haven't seen it, NEEK tells the story of two young lovers who part ways for a specific reason. When the guy receives an invitation to the girl's wedding, he attends hoping to move on, but things don’t go as planned. The film wraps up with multiple characters eager to chase their romantic interests, leaving NEEK 2 to reveal what happens next.
