Dhanush unveiled the first look of his forthcoming directorial venture, Idly Kadai, on New Year's Day. The actor posted two posters showcasing his appearance in the film, accompanied by a caption emphasizing the importance of remaining 'connected' to one's 'roots.' This project marks his fourth endeavour as a director.

Idly Kadai's first look

The producers of Idly Kadai announced on January 1 that the initial visual presentation of the film would be unveiled in the evening. Thus far, all the promotional posters have suggested that the film is centred around a rural narrative, with the inaugural poster depicting a small eatery that serves tiffins. On Wednesday evening, Dhanush shared two posters that showcased his appearance in the film, accompanied by the caption, “Idli kadai First look. stay connected to your roots.”

The first poster features Dhanush attired in a traditional white garment, holding a bag of groceries in one hand and steel containers in the other, positioned at the entrance of the eatery. The second poster presents him in a more youthful appearance, with a clean-shaven face and dressed in a shirt and trousers, standing alongside a man who is similarly attired to Dhanush in the first poster. These visuals suggest that the film will delve into two distinct periods in the protagonist’s life.

Fans expressed their excitement upon viewing his appearance in the film, with one individual remarking, “This vibe uhh.” Another fan noted, “Rural entertainer loading.” Additionally, a fan analyzed the posters, stating, “Has anyone observed that... Kiran sir in the second image is dressed in a dhoti, shirt, towel on the forehead, and sandals on his feet. All these elements are consistent with those in the first picture.”

Upcoming work

Dhanush was most recently featured in the film Raayan, released in 2024, which he also directed. Prior to this, he directed Pa Paandi in 2017. Currently, he is engaged in directing Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, in addition to Idly Kadai. Furthermore, he is set to appear in Sekhar Kammula’s Kubera, alongside co-stars Rashmika Mandanna, Nagarjuna, and Jim Sarbh.
