After 8 seasons of Dexter, a crime drama with Michael C Hall as the title character Dexter, a vigilante serial killer, who also works as a forensic technician specializing in blood spatter analysis for the fictional Miami Metro Police Department, and a 10-episode limited series, a prequel series is set to drop shortly.

Clyde Phillips, who was the showrunner of the first 4 seasons of Dexter, returns in the same capacity for Dexter: Original Sin, which will follow a young Dexter as he transitions from student to serial killer, while also beginning his career with the police department. Patrick Gibson plays young Dexter, while Michael C Hall is also on board, albeit only as voice talent, as the character’s inner monologue.

Dexter: Original Sin headed to JioCinema?

The Showtime Original series has got a streaming update and will be available from December 13, with weekly episodic drops going all the way to February 14, 2025, on Paramount+. In India, Showtime/Paramount+ content comes to JioCinema, and given that all of Dexter’s 8 seasons are available on the platform, but not Dexter New Blood, this origin story should also be headed there shortly.

Set in the early 90s in Miami, Dexter: Original Sin explores Dexter’s struggles with his bloodthirsty urges, and how he learns to channel his inner darkness by finding and killing only those who deserve to be eliminated from society. Helping Dexter in the mission and in staying out of the police’s radar is his father, Harry Morgan, played by Christian Slater. All this, of course, is also while Dexter pursues an internship in forensics with the Miami Metro PD. 

Dexter: Original Sin also stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Patrick Dempsey, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milan, Reno Wilson, and Alex Shimizu, among others. The makers have not announced if the prequel will remain a limited series or if it will be renewed for further storytelling.
