Devadoothan, the musical mystery film which stars Mohanlal in the lead role, had its re-release in theatres on July 26, 2024. The Sibi Malayil directorial, which was originally a major flop at the box office, is finally getting its due after 24 years of its original release. As the movie stepped into the second week of its release, Devadoothan 4K has now emerged as the all-time highest-grossing re-release film in Malayalam, beating the Mohanlal starrer Spadikam, directed by Bhadran.

Devadoothan 4K beats Spadikam 4K at the box office

According to the latest updates from the trade experts, Devadoothan 4K made a total worldwide gross collection of around Rs. 3.25 crore, when the movie completed the second weekend of its re-release. Thus, the Sibi Malayil directorial has surpassed the lifetime collections of Spadikam 4K, the Bhadran directorial which was re-released in theatres in February 2023. For the uninitiated, Spadikam collected Rs. 3.1 crore within its lifetime re-release run. This is indeed a major achievement for the Mohanlal-Jayaprada starrer, which was originally a commercial disaster.

Will Manichitrathazhu beat Devadoothan?

While considering the current box office trend, it is safe to assume that Devadoothan 4K will easily cross the Rs. 4 crore mark at the box office, within its lifetime run at the theatres. The re-release trend is expected to be carried forward by the upcoming Manichitrathazhu 4K version, which is all set to hit the big screens on August 17, 2024, on the auspicious occasion of Chingam 1. As we consider the cult classic status and massive fan base of Manichitrathazhu, it is safe to assume that the Fazil directorial might emerge as the first-ever re-released film to cross the Rs. 5 crore mark at the box office.

Devadoothan 4K, however, is expected to remain at the theatres for a couple more weeks, with over 200 screens across the globe. The Sibi Malayail directorial, which stars Mohanlal in the role of musician Vishal Krishnamoorthy, is now receiving immense love from the audience for its exceptional performances, brilliant making, and most importantly, the fantastic music score composed by Vidyasagar.
