Currently, there is considerable uncertainty within the Bollywood industry regarding the potential collaboration between Anurag Basu, T-Series, and Kartik Aaryan for the third instalment of the Aashiqui franchise, previously referred to as Aashiqui 3. This week, a teaser for the highly anticipated film was unveiled; however, it was released without a title, further intensifying fans' curiosity about its content and whether it has evolved into a completely different project. This ambiguity has lingered for several months, as the producers have chosen not to provide any confirmations, instead urging fans and audiences to await official announcements. What Is the Kartik Aaryan-Sreeleela Film?

Initially intended to be produced by Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt, who was involved with both the original film and its sequel, Aashiqui 3 was subsequently revealed in March 2024 as an independent project, with Kumar taking on the role of the sole producer. Promoted under the title Aashiqui 3, the announcement teaser showcased Kartik performing the song Tu Hi Aashiqui Hai, generating considerable excitement among fans. Nevertheless, there were conversations regarding a potential title change to Tu Aashiqui Hai around the time Triptii Dimri departed from the film, paving the way for Sreeleela. Shortly thereafter, the situation took an even more unexpected turn.

Mukesh Bhatt Moves to Court

In September 2024, Mukesh Bhatt, the producer of the initial two films, initiated legal proceedings concerning the title dispute, as reported by Hindustan Times. The court's ruling favoured Bhatt, thereby preventing T-Series from utilizing the Aashiqui title. Notably, the court also prohibited the creators of the Kartik Aaryan-Sreeleela film from incorporating the term Aashiqui in any forthcoming titles.

The ruling from the high court indicated that discussions had taken place between the involved parties regarding a third installment of the Aashiqui franchise, which was publicly announced. Additionally, it was noted that the Defendant (T-Series) has actively promoted a narrative suggesting that their forthcoming film is the third installment of the Aashiqui series. This notion is further supported by the Defendant’s (T-Series) application to secure the title Tu Hi Aashiqui. Given these circumstances, the Plaintiff (Mukesh Bhatt) argues that confusion is unavoidable, and therefore, the Defendant (T-Series) should be prohibited from incorporating the term Aashiqui in the title of its proposed film, as this could mislead the public into thinking that the new film is affiliated with the Aashiqui franchise, thus infringing upon the Plaintiff’s rights associated with the Aashiqui brand.

Makers Still Hoping to Mend Things

The teaser that was unveiled earlier this week to announce the film's release date disclosed all details except for the title, generating significant intrigue among fans. It has been reported that Kartik Aaryan is keen on incorporating "Aashiqui" into the title, a sentiment that the producers share. Current reports indicate that efforts are underway to reach a compromise and persuade the Bhatts to permit the use of the title. Nevertheless, with the film scheduled for release during Diwali 2025, time is of the essence, as promotional activities will need to commence in the upcoming months, making the title a crucial element.
