The production of the film spanned two years, yet upon its theatrical release, it failed to generate significant interest. Compounding the situation, the transition to streaming was hindered by legal complications. However, Akhil Akkineni’s spy thriller, which also features Malayalam superstar Mammootty in a crucial role, is now set to debut on OTT. Recently, the streaming service Sony LIV confirmed that the film will be available on their platform.

Directed by Surender Reddy, Agent is scheduled to premiere on Sony LIV on March 14, 2025. The film has faced multiple official announcements regarding its release, each time being postponed. Reports indicate that the delays were due to legal issues, including a stay order obtained by a distributor who incurred significant losses in acquiring the theatrical rights. Additionally, there were claims of a financial dispute between the film's producers and the streaming service.

With a production budget of approximately Rs 80 crore, Agent struggled to reach even Rs 10 crore in box office revenue. Producer Anil Sunkara publicly stated that the film's lack of success was attributed to Surender Reddy's approach of working without a structured script, resulting in a loss of nearly Rs 50 crores.

Since May 2023, there have been several announcements regarding the film's OTT release, the most recent occurring in September, after which there was a notable silence from both the streaming platform and the filmmakers. It is hoped that this time, there will be no further delays. The narrative follows Akhil as an ethical hacker aspiring to become a RAW agent, who, after numerous setbacks, is finally recruited to thwart a mission led by a rogue agent.

Agent also features performances by Dino Morea, Sakshi Vaidya, Vikramjeet Virk, Denzil Smith, Sampath Raj, Murali Sharma, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, among others, with a special appearance by Urvashi Rautela in a musical number.
