Laapataa Ladies, the Hindi comedy-drama amazed Indian audiences this year in March. It is now gearing up to stun the world as well since the Kiran Rao directorial has become India's official entry to the Oscars 2025 for the Best Foreign Film category. The news has already taken the internet by storm. A while ago, Kiran and Aamir expressed gratitude to the selection committee on social media. Kiran even thanked the audience for believing in her film. Now, the lead actors Sparsh Shrivastav and Nitanshi Goel, who are stunned by the news, have reacted to the same.

Recently in an interview with ETimes, Sparsh Shrivastav, who played Deepak Kumar, and Nitanshi Goel, who played his wife Phool Kumari, spoke about their film being India's official entry to the Oscars. The duo expressed excitement and joy. For Shrivastav it's like "magic" while for Goel it's "surreal". Sparsh told the portal, “I think that's the word. I never expected the film would go this big. And then to the Oscars. Let’s hope we win it. Just a few days ago I was talking to my casting director whether or not we would go to the Oscars. And then he called me today and told me ‘bhai jaa Rahi hai Oscars’."

"I manifested this entry. I am brimming with gratitude. The Oscars sound surreal. I am the happiest person today. It is due to the audience who gave us wings. Hopefully, we will dance our way to Oscars”, Nitanshi reacted.\

Film Federation of India’s selection for Laapataa Ladies

The Film Federation of India (FFI) meticulously selects the official Indian entry for the Oscars, adhering to a rigorous evolution process. Cinematic excellence, technical prowess, outstanding storytelling, artistic merit, and international appeal, all of these are a paramount consideration for FFI. Additionally, the cultural significance of Laapataa Ladies, reflecting India’s heritage and societal nuances, every detail not only represents India’s cinematic landscape but also stands out on the global stage.

Directed by Kiran Rao, Laapataa Ladies stars Sparsh, Nitanshi, Pratibha Ranta, Ravi Kishan, and Chhaya Kadam in key roles. The film is produced jointly by Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan. It is now streaming on Netflix.

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 2, 2025.
