It seems like there is no stopping Deadpool & Wolverine, as the buddies continue to capture the world with their madness, even after over a month on the big screen. Released on July 26, 2024, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer is writing history as we speak, flourishing while new films come and disappear around them, with Deadpool & Wolverine remaining strong. The milestone was first achieved when it became the highest-earning R-rated movie ever by surpassing Joker (2019). Now, it has gone a step further, dethroning Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man 3 from its position.
Deadpool & Wolverine Beats Iron Man 3
Tracking the milestones Deadpool & Wolverine continues to cross has become a favorite pastime for fans across the world. The comic book wildfire was lit and refuses to cool down, even after reaching the top of its category. Now, it’s crossing boundaries and competing with other Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. With over $600 million in domestic earnings and more than $1.2 billion globally, Shawn Levy’s directorial has now left Iron Man 3 behind.
Set in the aftermath of The Avengers, Iron Man 3, starring Robert Downey Jr., Jon Favreau, Gwyneth Paltrow, and an ensemble cast, was released in 2013. Directed by Shane Black, it was the seventh film in the MCU and one of the highest-grossing films of that year. The movie, which created a massive buzz back in the day as the final film in RDJ’s solo franchise, managed to earn $1.22 billion globally.
It turns out that on Labor Day, Deadpool & Wolverine decided to leave Iron Man 3 behind. The movie, after earning $13.9 million in its sixth weekend, has now garnered $658.5 million in the global market and $599.5 million in the United States. The total sum of these earnings stands at a staggering $1.26 billion global haul. This has made the movie the 7th highest-grossing comic book movie of all time. Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Emma Corrin, is expected to have a $1.3 billion to $1.4 billion global run, according to reports.
Deadpool & Wolverine Digital Premiere to Be Delayed?
To give you an idea, Marvel Studios has been following a strategy of releasing movies on Disney+ 89 days after their theatrical release. However, it's also worth noting that the last few films have underperformed at the box office, leading to earlier-than-expected digital releases. But for Deadpool & Wolverine, that is not the case, as it is currently enjoying a strong $1.2 billion at the box office and counting. As a result, it is highly likely that the studio will not release the movie digitally anytime soon.
