Even if you've seen Deadpool & Wolverine on the big screen once, twice, or even three times, you're probably still eagerly waiting for the Marvel Cinematic Universe juggernaut to hit Disney+ so you can analyze every frame at your convenience. Released on July 26, the film starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman has become a force to reckon with. After breaking all possible records in the R-rated movie category, the film now sits at the top of the list, surpassing Joaquin Phoenix's 2019 film Joker. As Deadpool & Wolverine continues to set records in theaters, all eyes are on its digital premiere on Disney+. However, it appears that the release may be delayed.
Will Deadpool & Wolverine's Digital Premiere Be Delayed?
Deadpool & Wolverine is the third film in the Deadpool franchise, marking the MCU debut of both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The film picks up from the second movie, previously produced under the 20th Century Fox banner, and merges it into the Multiverse Saga, ultimately connecting to Avengers: Secret Wars. Directed by Shawn Levy, the movie has been a delightful fan service, filled with endless Deadpool jokes and numerous shocking cameos. As the film continues to dominate the box office, grossing over $1.2 billion, fans are eagerly awaiting its digital premiere.
Typically, Marvel Studios releases its movies on Disney+ approximately 89 days after their theatrical debut. However, it’s important to note that recent Marvel films underperformed at the box office, prompting earlier-than-usual digital releases. This won’t be the case for Deadpool & Wolverine, which has already grossed over $1.2 billion, meaning the studio is unlikely to rush its digital release.
If Marvel follows its 89-day release strategy, Deadpool & Wolverine should be available for streaming by the end of October 2024. However, The Direct reports that the movie will not debut on Disney+ in October and that Marvel Studios will likely delay its digital premiere. The report suggests that the studio could push the release to late November or even December. It draws a comparison to Barbie, which was released in July 2023 but didn’t arrive on streaming platforms until December 2023, after a 147-day theatrical run that earned over a billion dollars at the box office.
Deadpool & Wolverine Becomes the Highest-Grossing R-Rated Film Ever
Deadpool & Wolverine has become a historic film, reviving the Marvel Cinematic Universe and providing a much-needed box office boost. The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer has grossed a total of $1.21 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing R-rated film in cinema history. Previously, this record was held by Joaquin Phoenix's Joker, which earned $1.079 billion.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently celebrated the movie's success with a statement: "Thanks for making Marvel Studios' first R-rated movie the biggest of all time. It's fantastic to see that audiences are loving this movie as much as we all loved making it. All those conversations were worth it!"
