As the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) moves forward in an exciting direction, largely thanks to Deadpool & Wolverine, the buzz surrounding the Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds starrer isn’t fading anytime soon. The film, released on July 26, 2024, has become one of Marvel Studios' most profitable ventures since Spider-Man: No Way Home debuted in December 2021.
With the movie surpassing the billion-dollar mark at the global box office, it has become a major success for the studio. This financial triumph is a relief for Marvel Studios, and they are certainly flaunting it wherever possible, especially given the largely positive reviews. Now, according to a new update, Marvel Studios is planning to campaign for Hugh Jackman at the Oscars.
Hugh Jackman for the Oscars?
Yes, you read that right. For those unfamiliar, Hugh Jackman made his debut in the MCU and returned as Wolverine after previously bidding farewell to the role in Logan under Fox’s leadership in 2017. Fans had been eagerly awaiting his return, especially after the emotional conclusion of Logan, which left a void in the hearts of many. Now, with Jackman back as the beloved Mutant in the MCU, fan excitement is at an all-time high. But did you expect that this excitement might propel Marvel to take him to the Oscars? Read on for more details.
According to the latest reports from Variety, Marvel Studios is planning to position Hugh Jackman in the Best Supporting Actor race at the Oscars. That’s not all—they’re also aiming for nominations in other prestigious awards, including the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and Critics' Choice Awards. The studio is placing special emphasis on Ryan Reynolds for the Best Actor category, particularly at the Golden Globes under the “Best Actor (Comedy or Musical)” category.
Jackman’s performance as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine has been widely praised by audiences. However, awards are nothing new for the actor, who has received four Golden Globe nominations (and one win!) and an Oscar nomination throughout his career. Interestingly, the MCU has never secured an Oscar win. The closest they came was when Angela Bassett was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
