Ollywood, the vibrant world of Odia cinema, brings forth colourful and poignant stories from the heart of Odisha. This entertainment world, based in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, weaves magic on screen with the rich culture of the Odia language.

Several movies from Ollywood are available on OTT platforms as well. The musical drama Dancing Star, which portrays the story of two young talents from different backgrounds, will be out on a digital platform soon.

When and where to watch Dancing Star

Released in 2022, Dancing Star will finally drop on the OTT platform Kanccha Lannka on June 14, 2024. You can also watch this musical drama through OTTplay Premium. The movie stars Sailendra Samantray and Sayall in the lead roles, while Badal Mohanty, Manoj Panda, Naina Das, Ratan Meher, Boby Mishra, Zina Samal, Shakti Barala, and Bibhu Dikhit appear in supporting roles.

Dancing Star plot

In the film, a young woman named Sohini is happily following her family's tradition of Odissi dance. While performing the classical dance during a stage programme in her locality, Sohini abruptly gets interrupted by a slum boy, Mithun, with his disco dance, and people seem to enjoy his performance more.

An angry Sohini confronts Mithun, who appears to be oblivious to the surroundings. Without giving any reply, Mithun continues dancing with his quirky music, while flaunting his freestyle moves, much to the delight of the crowd.

Sohini hails from a lineage deeply rooted in Odisha's cultural heritage, with her family's legacy spanning three generations. Meanwhile, Mithun hails from a limited background, but is confident enough to show off his dance talent, despite his lack of proper training and practice. However, Sohini and Mithun’s paths again collide when the duo participate in a dance reality show, Dancing Star.

Even though societal pressure and restrictions stand in their way, will Sohini and Mithun’s deep desire to be a dancing star manage to bridge the gap between them?

What does the trailer show?

The trailer begins with the introduction of Mithun and Sohini, who seem to dislike each other. While Sohini is a professional Odissi dancer, Mithun’s street dancing is also not bad. Together they embark on a journey to fulfil their dream of becoming a dancing star, by performing together on the stage.

Just when they decide to perform a duet in the whole reality show, they develop feelings for each other, and eventually fall in love.
