The initial teaser for a new crime drama has been released on YouTube by Netflix India. This series is being referred to as "Narcos: Thane," positioning itself as the Mumbai counterpart to the well-known Netflix drug-related dramas, Narcos and Narcos: Mexico.
What's in the teaser?
The teaser presents a collective of entrepreneurial middle-class women from Thane, a neighbouring town of Mumbai, who operate a dabba service. They prepare meals at home and deliver them to clients in tiffin boxes. However, the situation is not as straightforward as it appears. Beneath the facade of this dabba service lies a dabba cartel engaged in the distribution of drugs concealed within the tiffin boxes.
The roles of the women in this Dabba Cartel are portrayed by Shabana Azmi, who appears to be the leader, alongside Nimisha Sajayan, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand, and Sai Tamhankar. Lillete Dubey, who has previously worked with Shabana in Aparna Sen's 2017 film Sonata, serves as her character's moral compass, warning her that having tasted blood, she cannot revert to her previous, crime-free existence.
This cartel operates with reluctance, as the lives of five middle-class women and their families are thrown into turmoil when their modest dabba service unexpectedly transforms into a high-stakes drug delivery operation. The women-led cartel finds itself in a precarious situation, while the male employees of a pharmaceutical company named Viva Life, central to this syndicate, are under investigation for their connections to an illegal pharmaceutical drug.
After the teaser, Jyothika remarks to Shabana's character, “So this is your Narcos Thane," eliciting surprise from the latter. The question remains: will they manage to extricate themselves from the criminal underworld, or will they become further ensnared in its perilous grasp? Among the male cast, Gajraj Rao and Jisshu Sengupta can also be seen in the trailer.
