The story centres on Kaushik (Partha), a reserved and inexperienced investment banker hailing from Eastern Odisha, who has never engaged in any form of physical intimacy and remains a virgin. He harbours secret fantasies about such experiences and ultimately decides to hire a high-end escort named Marilyn (Suryamayee). They spend a weekend together at a remote resort, where Kaushik encounters intimacy for the first time.
The experience leaves Kaushik feeling exhilarated and more alive than he has ever felt. In contrast, Marilyn approaches the situation as merely a professional obligation. After their time together concludes, Kaushik realizes he has developed feelings for her, despite understanding the impossibility of their relationship. His attempts to locate her afterwards prove futile, resulting in heartbreak and uncertainty about his future.
Sisir Kumar Sahu's interpretation of the film titled Daalcheeni has been directed.
In 2021, Sisir Kumar Sahu, one of the directors of Daalcheeni, provided numerous insights regarding the Odia film during an interview with City News. He elaborated on the film's distinctive title, explaining that 'Daalcheeni' is employed in a metaphorical sense. He noted that individuals tend to perceive others primarily through their own viewpoints. However, as they become more acquainted with someone, they begin to understand that person's behaviour and characteristics more clearly.
Sisir also remarked that 'Dalchini,' known as Cinnamon in English, may initially appear to be an ordinary tree bark. It is only when individuals incorporate it into their cooking and experience its flavour that they truly appreciate the delightful aroma it imparts.
