Sithara Entertainments, led by Naga Vamsi, maintains a strong partnership with Netflix, as many of his productions are either currently available or will be on the platform in the near future. Consequently, agreements were established concerning the OTT deal and its release timeline.

Following the film's theatrical release, Netflix reevaluated the agreement based on audience reception and proposed a price to the producers that was deemed unsatisfactory. This led to the postponement of the OTT release from the originally scheduled date of February 9, 2025.

Daaku Maharaaj OTT deal update

It has now been confirmed that the OTT rights for Daaku Maharaaj were sold for a mere Rs 19 crore, which is viewed as a compromise. This situation also impacted the satellite rights, which were sold for only Rs 5 crore. Recently, streaming platforms have shown reluctance to offer substantial amounts for digital rights.

This trend is driven by the need for streaming services like Netflix to evaluate a film's potential reach and global appeal before finalizing deals. Consequently, Pan-India films tend to attract significantly higher offers from producers. Given that Balakrishna's films do not enjoy the same level of popularity on a Pan-India basis, the offer for Daaku Maharaaj was comparatively lower.

Looking ahead, it appears that only major films with extensive reach are likely to command substantial offers, presenting a considerable challenge for producers who are heavily reliant on OTT rights. Additionally, a decline in OTT viewership over the past year has placed platforms in a position where they are less willing to invest large sums for digital rights. Unfortunately, Daaku Maharaaj falls into this category and will be available for streaming on Netflix starting February 21, 2025.
