1 month ago | 5 Views
The anticipation has officially commenced! After years of speculation, Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph appear to have finalized the script for Drishyam 3. The duo has consistently expressed their desire to conclude Georgekutty's narrative, yet director Jeethu has indicated that he was still searching for a concept that would meet audience expectations. However, this uncertainty has now dissipated, as Mohanlal has confirmed that production for Drishyam 3 will commence shortly.
In a recent social media update, the actor, who has been sharing insights about his upcoming projects ahead of the highly awaited release of L2: Empuraan, stated, “The past never stays silent. Drishyam 3 confirmed.”

Will Georgekutty finally meet his match in Drishyam 3?
The inaugural film of the franchise, Drishyam, debuted in 2013 and quickly became the highest-grossing Malayalam film at that time, shattering numerous box office records. This success led to a series of remakes, including adaptations in Tamil featuring Kamal Haasan, Telugu with Venkatesh, and Hindi starring Ajay Devgn. The film's rights have since been acquired for various languages, including Sinhalese, Mandarin, Korean, and even for Hollywood adaptations.
Although the creators intended to release the sequel in theaters, plans were thwarted by the pandemic lockdown. Nevertheless, Drishyam 2, which premiered in 2021, achieved the highest OTT deal for a Malayalam film, with its direct-to-OTT rights sold to Amazon Prime Video for an impressive amount nearing Rs 20 crore, as reported by industry insiders.
Referring to Mohanlal’s statement, it appears that Georgekutty may finally face consequences for his actions. In the first film, Asha Sharath and Kalabhavan Shajohn portrayed the police pursuing him, while Murali Gopy took on the role of the chief investigator whom Georgekutty cleverly evaded in the sequel. The casting for the third installment is likely to generate considerable excitement as well.

Will all Drishyam 3 remakes be shot simultaneously?
There have been reports suggesting that the Bollywood adaptation of Drishyam 3, featuring Ajay Devgn, will be filmed at the same time as the original Malayalam version. Nevertheless, Jeethu had previously informed OTTplay that there are no such intentions.
