Coolie update: This Manjummel Boys actor joins the cast of Rajinikanth-Lokesh Kanagaraj film

We had earlier reported that actor Rajinikanth will be joining forces with director Lokesh Kanagaraj for a film titled Coolie. The makers had earlier released the title teaser, creating much anticipation about the film. Now, on Wednesday, the makers of Coolie dropped updates regarding the cast members of the project.
Coolie cast announced
Coolie is Rajinikanth’s 171th outing as lead actor. The film is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, in his maiden collaboration with the superstar. So far, we know that the film is backed by Sun Pictures banner and has Anirudh Ravichander scoring the music for the film.
On Wednesday, the makers of Coolie revealed the cast members. The latest addition to the film is Soubin Shahir, the Malayalam actor. The film will mark the actor’s debut in the Tamil film industry. Soubin Shahir is known for his films like Manjummel Boys, Kumblangi Nights, and many more and will mark the first time he will be sharing the screen space Rajinikanth and working with Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Coolie is touted to be a gangster action flick with renowned stunt coordinator duo Anbariv associated with the project. The makers have remained tight-lipped about the project’s plot. However, it is confirmed that Coolie will be a standalone project, and not associated with the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which already consists of Kaithi, Vikram and Leo.
The shooting for Coolie is underway, with the film going on floors in July. Anirudh Ravichander is set to compose the songs and original score. Girish Gangadharan is the director of photography. Philomin Raj handles the editing. Coolie, which is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the prestigious banner Sun Pictures, is expected to hit the theatres by the summer of 2025. However a release date for the film is yet to be announced.
Later, director Lokesh Kanagaraj and his team are all set to resume the next schedule in Hyderabad. The final schedule, on the other hand, is expected to go on floors in Chennai.
