Colleen Hoover's highly anticipated film adaptation of Verity is nearing its release. Directed by Michael Showalter, this film serves as a sequel to Hoover's acclaimed adaptation of her bestselling novel, It Ends With Us.

When will Verity release?

Amazon MGM Studios is set to release Verity in theaters in 2026, although the specific date has yet to be announced. The novel, which topped The New York Times Best Seller list for several months and sold over a million copies in 2023, was initially self-published by Hoover in 2018.

In November 2024, Hoover shared her excitement regarding the film adaptation of Verity, which is inspired by her self-published work. On Instagram, she stated, “Verity is coming to theaters, and I am thrilled about this cast, the script, the director, and the entire team bringing this story to life. I can’t wait. More updates coming soon!”

What is Verity about?

The story revolves around Lowen Ashleigh, an aspiring writer who is brought on board to finish the acclaimed series authored by the renowned Verity Crawford. 

While at the Crawfords' residence, Lowen discovers an unpublished autobiography that unveils shocking truths, including the circumstances surrounding the death of Verity's daughter. 

As Lowen develops feelings for Verity's husband, Jeremy, she faces a moral dilemma: should she reveal the disturbing truths contained in the manuscript or exploit them for her own benefit? 

Despite having authored over 20 best-selling novels, Hoover shared during an August 2024 appearance on Barely Famous that writing Verity was her "most enjoyable writing experience."

Cast and filming

Alongside the announcement regarding the adaptation's development, it was revealed that Anne Hathaway will portray Verity Crawford in the film.

Hathaway takes on the role of Verity Crawford, reuniting with director Michael Showalter, with whom she previously collaborated on The Idea Of You.

Josh Hartnett is set to play Jeremy Crawford, while Dakota Johnson will assume the role of Lowen Ashleigh, rounding out the main cast.

During the filming of Verity in New York City in late February 2025, Hartnett and Hathaway were spotted holding hands and running down the street dressed in semi-formal attire.

A few days later, Johnson was seen on set with Hartnett, her face and clothing smeared with fake blood, suggesting they were shooting a scene depicting a car accident from the book.
