Homi Adajania's 2012 film Cocktail featured prominent actors Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan, and Diana Penty. The film's romantic comedy score has maintained its popularity well beyond its initial release. Cocktail is regarded as a significant turning point in Deepika Padukone's career, marking her transition from an actress to a star. Thirteen years after the original film's debut, producer Dinesh Vijan is set to launch Cocktail 2, albeit with a new cast. Reports suggest that the upcoming film will revolve around a love triangle involving Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon.

Cocktail 2 plans and new cast lineup

According to Pinkvilla, the production team is currently in search of a third female lead to complete the love triangle. Shahid and Kriti are reuniting for Cocktail 2 after their successful collaboration in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. Both actors have expressed their excitement about the screenplay and are eager to engage in this romantic comedy. Dinesh Vijan, a passionate advocate for romantic comedies, believes that the script has the potential to rejuvenate the genre, as per insider information.

In the original Cocktail, Vijan worked alongside Imtiaz Ali in the creative process, whereas for Cocktail 2, he will collaborate with Luv Ranjan. Ranjan has penned the screenplay for the sequel and will play a crucial role in the production. The narrative centers on the universal theme of friendship, infused with humor and lighthearted moments. Sources indicate that fans should pay attention to the dynamic between Ranjan and Vijan, as Ranjan is known for his expertise in this genre. Additionally, an insider revealed that the entire Cocktail team is highly enthusiastic about the project, given that it features a wholesome comedy with two of the most beloved actors of the current generation, Shahid and Kriti Sanon.

Cocktail 2 production timeline

Filming for Cocktail 2 is set to commence in May 2025, with Homi Adajania at the helm as director. The casting process is actively ongoing, aiming to assemble a substantial ensemble cast in addition to the two principal actors. Shahid will transition to Cocktail 2 following the completion of Arjun Ustara/Evil, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Concurrently, Kriti is expected to finish her work on Tere Ishk Mein, directed by Aanand L Rai, prior to starting her role in Cocktail 2.
