Duniya Vijay's upcoming directorial venture, City Lights, marks the debut of his daughter Monisha, who will be appearing under the screen name Rithnya. She is cast alongside Vinay Rajkumar, known for his distinctive choices in scripts and roles. "I have been an admirer of Duniya Vijay's work as an actor for some time, and when he transitioned to directing, I recognized that his style of filmmaking encompasses all the essential elements of a complete entertainer, including action, music, romance, drama, and engaging dialogues. He possesses the ideal blend of components that contribute to a successful film. Therefore, when he extended the offer for a role in City Lights, I was delighted to accept," the actor shared in an interview with National TV.

This film represents Vijay's third directorial project, following Salaga and Bheema, but it is the first instance in which he is not taking on the lead role. Vinay noted that his character in this film significantly diverges from Vijay's typical portrayals of gangsters within the Bengaluru underworld, yet it promises to deliver ample entertainment. The actor-director is set to introduce a variety of new characters, and the narrative will convey a social message. During the film's inaugural press conference, Vinay elaborated that the plot centres on his character and the events that unfolded upon his arrival in Bengaluru.

Vinay is unable to elaborate on the specifics of the role; however, he describes it as highly relatable. He is particularly drawn to the role's gravitas and its focus on performance. Regarding his co-star, Vinay notes that Rithnya is not only well-suited for the character crafted by her father but has also arrived well-prepared to engage with the camera.

Vinay was last seen in the film Pepe, which was anticipated to be a significant turning point in his career; however, it ultimately failed to make an impact. Has he taken the time to reflect on the reasons for this outcome? He states, “The underperformance of a film at the box office does not necessarily indicate a flaw in its presentation. Numerous factors influence a film's success in theatres, such as its release timing, marketing strategies, and promotional efforts. Pepe was not dismissed entirely; there were viewers who appreciated the film and felt it had merit.”
