3 days ago | 5 Views
Kannada actor Sharan ventured into the horror comedy genre with Avatara Purusha, although he only scratched the surface, primarily focusing on themes of dark magic. As an enthusiast of horror films, he found the genre appealing. Therefore, when director Navaneeth, renowned for the horror drama Karvva, presented him with a supernatural concept, he eagerly accepted the opportunity. They believed that merging their distinct filmmaking styles would create something truly unique.
The film, titled Choo Mantar and produced by Tharun Shivappa, was initially scheduled for release in early 2024 but faced delays, ultimately premiering in January during the Sankranti festival. It received predominantly positive reviews and distinguished itself as the only Kannada film to generate profit at the box office amidst approximately 60 releases within the first three months of the year. The film enjoyed a successful 50-day run in theaters, after which it was announced that it would be available on OTT platforms.

The film will be available with Kannada audio and English subtitles. The cast of Choo Mantar includes Aditi Prabhudeva, Chikkanna, Prabhu Mundkur, Meghana Gaonkar, Rajani Bharadwaj, and others.TITLE | Choo Mantar |

In the film, Sharan had double roles, both paranormal experts, but in different time periods. In one, he was Dynamo, a brilliant exorcist, who is brought in to figure out the root cause of the supernatural activities in a mansion called Morgan House, which an India-returned NRI family has inherited. It’s a mystery that Dynamo fails to crack; a mission that his son Gowtham then takes up.

Gowtham's rationale for exploring the haunted house revolves around a legendary treasure believed to be hidden within its confines. However, this treasure remains elusive, as those who enter the premises mysteriously fail to return. A significant aspect of the film was Navaneeth's clever integration of this narrative into the Aptharakshaka movie universe.
