Chhaava vs Pushpa 2 clash averted! Vicky Kaushal-starrer to pick a new release date
27 days ago | 5 Views
In an intriguing turn of events, the highly anticipated release dates for Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava and Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule have shifted to avoid a box office clash in early December. Originally, both films were set to release within a day of each other, with Pushpa 2 scheduled for December 5 and Chhaava for December 6. However, as per MidDay, Chhaava's production team has now opted to reschedule, aiming to maximize the film's box office potential by choosing a date without direct competition.
Decision to reschedule Chhaava for maximum box office potential
Everyone involved with the production company, director Laxman Utekar, and Kaushal is working on a massive undertaking with Chhaava. An insider told the tabloid that the release makes sense when there are no other scheduled films. According to another source, production is almost complete on the historical drama, which stars Kaushal as Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh has praised this strategic move, noting that a box office clash could have hurt the earnings of both films. Showman Raj Bansal of Rajasthan also commented on the decision, suggesting that releasing Chhaava at the same time as Pushpa 2 would have been catastrophic, as simultaneous releases often lead to lower box office returns for both films.
Pushpa 2: The Rule – Allu Arjun’s role and the film's anticipation
In the Sukumar-directed film Pushpa 2: The Rule, Arjun reprises his role as Pushpa Raj, a coolie who rises through the ranks of a syndicate that traffics red sandalwood in Andhra Pradesh's Seshachalam Hills. The 2021 first instalment, Pushpa: The Rise, was a huge hit, earning Arjun his first Best Actor National Award. Sunil, Ajay Ghosh, Jagadeesh Prathap Bandari, Dhananjaya, and Fahadh Faasil also play important roles in Pushpa 2, while Rashmika Mandanna returns as Srivalli.
Cast and historical context of Chhaava
Meanwhile, Chhaava, based on Shivaji Sawant's Marathi novel of the same name, brings Vicky Kaushal into the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Rashmika Mandanna stars as Yesubai, Sambhaji's wife, alongside Divya Dutta as Soyarabai, Sambhaji's stepmother, and Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, the Mughal emperor.
The postponement spares audiences the much-anticipated box office showdown between Pushpa 2 and Chhaava, two films expected to draw large audiences. Both productions are high-budget, featuring beloved stars; with Rashmika Mandanna appearing in both films, her involvement adds an intriguing link between a fictional action thriller and a historical epic. Fans now eagerly await Chhaava’s new release date, as December still promises a blockbuster season.
