The film had a strong debut at the box office on its opening day. It garnered approximately ₹31 crore (nett) across all languages. The Hindi version achieved an overall occupancy rate of 35.17 percent on its first day. In terms of attendance during the morning shows, the film recorded a footfall of 30.51 percent, followed by 34.50 percent in the afternoon and 40.51 percent in the evening. With these figures, Chhaava has emerged as Vicky Kaushal's highest-grossing opener to date, surpassing the previous record of ₹8.20 crore set by Uri: The Surgical Strike. Additionally, Chhaava has claimed the title of the largest opening film of 2025, exceeding the ₹15.30 crore collected by Akshay Kumar's Sky Force on its opening day last month.

About the film

Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the banner of Maddock Films, Chhaava is a historical action film that chronicles the life of Maratha king Sambhaji, portrayed by Vicky Kaushal. The cast includes Rashmika Mandanna as Maharani Yesubai, Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, Ashutosh Rana as Sarsenapati Hambirao Mohite, and Divya Dutta as Soyarabai. This film is inspired by the Marathi novel Chhava, authored by Shivaji Sawant. The musical score and soundtrack are crafted by A. R. Rahman, with lyrics written by Irshad Kamil.

Chhaava has the potential to serve as a compelling homage to the valor and sacrifices of Sambhaji. However, it falls short of this ambition due to poor editing and an overemphasis on portraying the Maratha ruler as a superhero.
