This Friday, February 14, the first historical drama of the year, Chhaava, is set to premiere in theaters. The movie tells the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and stars Vicky Kaushal in the lead role, with Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna playing important parts. According to Bollywood Hungama, the filmmakers wrapped up the censor edits ahead of time.

Changes in CBFC certification and censorship

Chhaava got a U/A 16+ rating from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). But the film needed some tweaks. They switched up a line from "Mughal sultanat ka zehar" (The poison of the Mughal Sultanate) to "Uss samay, kayi shaasak aur sultanat khud ko zinda rakhne ki koshish kar rahe the." (At that time, many rulers and sultanates were trying to keep themselves alive.) Another line, "Khoon toh aakhir Mughalon ka hi hai" (After all, the blood is that of the Mughals), was changed to "Khoon toh hai Aurang ka hi." (After all, the blood is Aurangzeb's.)

The phrases "haramzaadon" and "haramzaada" were softened, and "Aameen" was changed to "Jai Bhavani." In the initial segment, the CBFC asked the creators to cut a scene showing Maratha warriors in sarees, and they also revised some dialogue.

There's more to it. "14 saal" was changed to "16 saal," "24 saal ka ladka" replaced "22 saal ka ladka," and "kayi saal" was used instead of "9 saal."

Cutting scenes and tweaking dialogue

The CBFC members asked the producers to add an audio-text disclaimer that points out the source material and makes it clear that the video isn’t trying to defame anyone or twist historical facts.

On February 1, the Chhaava producers got their censor certificate after making those changes. The film runs for 161.50 minutes, which is 2 hours, 41 minutes, and 50 seconds, according to the certificate.

Laxman Utekar, who directed hits like Luka Chuppi (2019), Mimi (2021), and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (2023), is at the helm of this new film, set to release in theaters on February 14.
