About Chhaava, CBFC Cuts, and Ratings
Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the banner of Maddock Pictures, Chhaava chronicles the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the second ruler of the Maratha Empire, who reigned from 1681 to 1689. The film is presented on an expansive scale and features Rashmika Mandanna in the role of Yesubai Bhonsale, Divya Dutta as Sambhaji Maharaj’s stepmother Soyarabai, and Akshaye Khanna portraying Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Recent promotional posters have increased excitement for the trailer, which is scheduled to be unveiled on January 22, 2025.
Chhaava has received a U/A 16+ certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), although it necessitated some alterations. The line "Mughal sultanat ka zehar" (The poison of the Mughal Sultanate) was modified to "Uss samay, kayi shaasak aur sultanat khud ko zinda rakhne ki koshish kar rahe the." (At that time, many rulers and sultanates were trying to survive). Additionally, the dialogue "Khoon toh aakhir Mughalon ka hi hai" (After all, the blood is that of the Mughals) was revised to "Khoon toh hai Aurang ka hi." (After all, the blood is Aurangzeb's).
Furthermore, the terms "haramzaadon" and "haramzaada" were moderated, and "Aameen" was substituted with "Jai Bhavani." The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) also mandated the elimination of a scene depicting Maratha warriors in sarees and requested alterations to specific dialogues. For example, "14 saal" was modified to "16 saal," "24 saal ka ladka" was changed to "22 saal ka ladka," and "kayi saal" was utilized in place of "9 saal."
