As we approach the end of the year, Kannada movie fans have two big releases on the horizon. First up, Real Star Upendra is back in the director's seat, kicking off the festive vibes with his new film, which will also be available in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.

On the other hand, this week’s major release is Disney’s prequel to The Lion King, titled Mufasa, which will only be available in dubbed versions for Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. So, aside from Upendra’s film, the only other fresh Kannada option is an action-packed pan-India project featuring Malayalam star Unni Mukundan.

UI

Real Star Upendra’s upcoming project, UI, is wrapped in mystery. This actor-director is making a comeback with a sci-fi film that explores the fallout from socio-economic and political events. Set in the year 2040, the official synopsis for the film reveals a story about a king and an exceptional individual who seizes control from the king, ultimately becoming a dictator.

The cast of UI includes Reeshma Nanaiah, Sadhu Kokila, Nidhi Subbaiah, and the late Guruprasad, among others.

It’s hitting theaters on December 20, 2024.

Marco

In the 2019 movie Mikhael, starring Nivin Pauly, one of the main villains was Marco, played by Unni Mukundan. Marco was known for his explosive temper and violent nature, often showing off his muscles. Now, this character is getting his own spin-off, directed by Haneef Adeni, who also directed Mikhael.

The new film, Marco, is an action-packed thriller and has been rated A for its intense violence. The soundtrack is by Ravi Basrur, and the cast features actors like Jagadish, Siddique, Kabir Duhan Singh, Yukti Thareja, Sreejith Ravi, and Riyaz Khan, among others. Marco has also been dubbed in Kannada, but it’s still unclear how many theaters will show this version.

Mechanic Rocky

Vishwak Sen’s action comedy is hitting OTT just a month after it hits theaters. Directed by Ravi Teja Mullapudi, the film got some decent reviews, but that didn’t really boost its box office performance. The story follows Vishwak’s character, who runs a driving school that’s in danger of shutting down because a local thug is trying to claim the land. Determined to save his family business, Rocky takes matters into his own hands to deal with the goon. You’ll also be able to watch the Telugu original with Kannada audio.
