Famous Kannada rapper Chandan Shetty is branching out into acting while still pursuing his music career. He recently filmed a period piece titled Elra Kaal Eliyatte Kaala, directed by actor and filmmaker Sujay Shastry, although the movie hasn't been released yet. After that, Chandan took on another project, Suthradaari, an investigative thriller where he portrays a police officer.

Suthradaari hits theaters on May 9

Debut director Kiran Kumra has set the release date for Suthradaari, which will hit theaters on May 9. In the film, Chandan, who is also the composer, stars alongside Apurva, while Sanjana Anand will make a special appearance in a musical number.

During the announcement of the release date, Chandan shared that acting wasn't on his radar until the pandemic hit and he found himself at home with some free time. He mentioned that donning the khaki uniform for the film was a memorable experience, as it marked the first time he portrayed a police officer. “Wearing the khaki, holding a gun, and driving around really makes you feel like a cop. It was an amazing experience working on this project,” he expressed.

When asked what changes he would implement if he were a real police officer, Chandan quickly responded that he would focus on tackling Bengaluru's traffic problems. “I want everyone to adhere to traffic rules. I’m quite strict about enforcing them, but oddly, in this city, those who follow the rules are often seen as the ones in the wrong, while rule-breakers seem to be the norm.”

Chandan pointed out that the current situation in Kannada cinema, where audiences are staying away from theaters, calls for a shift in the industry. He noted, “In the past, everyone involved in a film, from the actors to the crew, would get paid upfront, and if the movie flopped, it was only the producer who faced the consequences. This needs to change. Everyone should have a fair stake in the profits or losses of a film. That’s the only way we can thrive as an industry.”
