Swades remains relevant

Gowariker recognizes the enduring relevance of Swades, a film that addresses issues of class and caste division. In a discussion with Mid Day, he expressed that the film resonates with contemporary societal conditions, illuminating the aspects that necessitate reevaluation. He experiences a mix of joy and sorrow upon realizing that Swades continues to receive acclaim. While he feels a sense of fulfilment from the recognition of his work, he is uncertain whether the circumstances have deteriorated. The disparity between urban and rural India has indeed increased. Gowariker perceives progress when observing technological advancements in urban settings, yet he considers this to be misleading. While the heartland also provides certain conveniences, he questions whether perspectives have genuinely shifted. The filmmaker remains sceptical, asserting that this transformation is far from complete and that significant challenges still lie ahead.

Ashutosh Gowariker's expanding horizons

Gowariker is currently managing a considerable workload and is eager to embark on new projects following a significant achievement by his production company. While he remains receptive to various opportunities, the pursuit of a web series appears to be the most sensible direction in the current entertainment landscape. Furthermore, he aims to venture into the production of documentaries, audiobooks, and television programs, with the intention of encompassing all facets of the entertainment industry. Given the extensive nature of his films, he is expanding into the OTT space to create more intricate storylines, thereby enabling the narration of longer narratives through web series.

The director is committed to meeting the expectations of his fans, who have been eagerly anticipating the release of his opulent films in theatres. The screenplay for his upcoming film has been finalized, and the filmmaker, who last directed the historical drama Panipat in 2019, has confirmed that the casting process is currently underway.

Collaborations with SRK, Aamir, and Hrithik

Gowariker has worked with Shah Rukh, Aamir Khan, and Hrithik Roshan on memorable films; when asked if he plans to work with them again, he replied that only if he has the right script.

The concept must initially resonate with him, he elaborates. If the ideas prove to be worthwhile, he will proceed to engage with them. The filmmaker further noted that the trio possesses a shared quality of being receptive to exploring new avenues within the boundaries of mainstream entertainment. Consequently, productions such as Dangal, Dear Zindagi, and Super 30 gained widespread acclaim. Their readiness to venture beyond their established comfort zones for a film is dependent on its alignment with the principles of a commercially viable project.
