Chhaava is among the most eagerly awaited historical action films set to release in 2025. Helmed by director Laxman Utekar, the movie features Vicky Kaushal in the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Rashmika Mandanna as Maharani Yesubai, and Akshaye Khanna portraying Aurangzeb. In addition to the performances of Vicky and Akshaye, Rashmika's depiction of the Maratha queen Yesubai holds considerable importance. Here are the reasons why.
5 reasons why you should focus on Rashmika Mand anna's Yesubai
Rashmika Mandanna playsa historical figure for the first time
In an interview with ANI, Rashmika Mandanna addressed the difficulties she encountered while depicting Yesubai, an important character in Maratha history. The actress shared that this role marked her initial experience in portraying a real historical figure. "This is the first time I am taking on a character that has already existed in history," she stated.
'I wasn't creating a character,' says Rashmika Mandanna
The actress expressed that this role presented an extraordinary opportunity, as she had never participated in a biographical film previously. It was a completely novel experience for her. "In all my previous films, I developed a character, but this time, I was not creating a character—she is Yesubai. There is no element of Rashmika in her," she stated.
Excellence guidance from Laxman Utekar
I was uncertain about the mannerisms, speech, and behaviour of the Maharani. Although we have studied their history, we have never had the chance to observe them in person, she remarked. Discussing her quest for direction from director Laxman Utekar, she mentioned that she continuously experimented with her performance to capture the true essence of the historical figure.
"Laxman Sir managed all aspects of this, and I was fortunate to collaborate with him. I had the privilege of portraying a character that is both beautiful and strong, and I take great pride in that today," she concluded.
Deliver lines in Hindi
She further stated that, since Hindi is not her native language, she encountered difficulties in delivering her lines; however, she also noted that she put in considerable effort to surmount this obstacle.
Dealing with heavy jewellery and clothes
Rashmika discussed her transformation, explaining that she had to drape a saree from scratch each day, as she did not possess a pre-draped version. She noted that this was quite demanding, particularly during the day.
"If you needed to use the restroom, you had to take everything off," she remarked with a laugh. The jewellery was also quite weighty; however, to maintain authenticity, they opted for real gold pieces. Despite the heaviness, she emphasized that it was this attention to detail that truly brought her character to life.
In other news, Laxman Utekar's historical action film, Chhaava, is set to premiere on Valentine's Day, February 14. The film's cast includes Ashutosh Rana portraying HHambirrao Mohite, Diana Penty as Zinat-un-Nissa Begum, Aurangzeb's daughter, along with Divya Dutta as Soyarabai Bhosale, Vineet Kumar, Santosh Juvekar, Neil Bhoopaam, and Pradeep Rawat. Chhaava is produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films.
