As the release date of Call Me Bae, an original series on Prime Video, draws near, Karan Johar and Ananya Panday, who will star in the show, have joined forces to fill you in on her first foray into OTT streaming! In today's fanciful yet entertaining over-the-top video, the filmmaker dramatically presents the intriguing concept of the Prime Video series as the actor gets ready to launch in her Prime-Star launch vessel!
A meta take on "bae" Ananya Panday
The meta video features Ananya discussing her character Bae with Karan, mocking her portrayal of the character. The actor is eager to see Bae's "regular person struggle"—as a former heiress from South Delhi, hustle and bustle in the dream metropolis of Mumbai—in contrast to her usual role as the posh princess.
In Call Me Bae, we delve into the life of Bae (Ananya), as a scandal precipitates her transition from heiress to hustler. Her wits and sense of style, not her jewels, she realises, are what really matter. While navigating Mumbai's newsrooms, she finds love, sisterhood, and her better self, despite being broke but refusing to be broken.
Ananya Panday on Call Me Bae
Earlier in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, while talking about Call Me Bae, Ananya said that it's a light-hearted comedic chick flick that features plenty of style and an air of intrigue. Basically, it's a cross between Clueless, Poo from K3G (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham), Nancy Drew, Schitt's Creek, and Aisha.
Dharmatic Entertainment produces Call Me Bae, with Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra serving as executive producers. Ishita Moitra, Rohit Nair, and Samina Motlekar are the writers and directors of the series, with Collin D'Cunha at the helm.
Supporting cast and release date
Gurfateh Pirzada, Mini Mathur, Lisa Mishra, Vihaan Samat, Varun Sood, and Vir Das join the lead actor, Ananya.
Beginning September 6, 2024, the series will be available to stream on Prime Video.
