The highly awaited film starring Rajinikanth, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is currently in production under the banner of Sun Pictures. Recent reports have indicated that actress Pooja Hegde will indeed perform a special number in Coolie.

On Thursday, it was officially announced that Pooja Hegde will be joining the cast of Coolie. Dressed in a striking red gown with a thigh-high slit, her poster was revealed. Pooja is set to make a special appearance, primarily for a song in the film. It will be captivating to witness her dance alongside Rajinikanth.

Coolie is an action thriller directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, featuring Rajinikanth in the leading role. The film also includes performances by Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, and Shruti Haasan. Principal photography began in July 2024, with a theatrical release planned for 2025. The soundtrack is composed by Anirudh Ravichander and produced by Sun Pictures.

Lokesh Kanagaraj was criticised for a special number

Pooja Hegde's announcement received a mixed response; while some expressed enthusiasm, others took to social media to voice their disappointment regarding Lokesh Kanagaraj's departure from his traditional filmmaking approach. Lokesh has been known for his clarity in storytelling, often avoiding commercial elements such as special dance numbers and other extraneous components. The release date for Coolie has not yet been disclosed. However, it has been previously confirmed by the filmmaker that this project will not be part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe.
