Unni Mukundan's film Marco is recognized as the most violent entry in Malayalam cinema, characterized by an abundance of graphic violence throughout its scenes. Nevertheless, this intense action film achieved commercial success both at the box office and in the digital realm following its release on OTT platforms. However, recent reports from Manorama News indicate that Marco has encountered difficulties, as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has refused to grant permission for its broadcast on television channels. Here is the latest information regarding this development.
Unni Mukundan's Marco is not for the TV audience
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has allegedly denied the satellite rights necessary for the television airing of the film Marco, attributing this decision to the graphic violence portrayed in the Malayalam movie, as reported by Manorama News. The central board has concurred with the suggestions made by the regional examination committee.

The Malayalam news report additionally indicated that Nadeem Thufali T, the regional officer of CBFC Kerala, has communicated with the chairperson of the board, requesting the central government's intervention to stop the streaming of Marco on OTT platforms.
It is important to highlight that Marco received an 'A' certification from the Censor Board before its theatrical release.
Marco on OTT
Following a successful theatrical release, Marco is now accessible for streaming across various platforms. The film, featuring Unni Mukundan, is currently available on Sony Liv in Malayalam and several other South Indian languages, while the Hindi version can be found on Prime Video. Additionally, Aha is offering Marco in Telugu. The Malayalam version is also available through OTTplay Premium.
Violence in Marco

The graphic violence portrayed in Marco has sparked considerable discussion and debate since the film's release in theatres on December 20, 2024. Numerous critics have condemned the intense action scenes, arguing that they may negatively impact Kerala society, especially among the youth and children. In response to these criticisms, Jagadish, the actor who portrays the ruthless antagonist, Tony Issac, challenged the notion that such violence has a detrimental effect. The veteran Malayalam actor posed the question, “If cinematic violence affects viewers, then why should the positive messages not have the same influence?”
