Following the film's debut, Ryan, who both wrote and directed Sinners, has composed a letter for moviegoers around the globe.

The letter states, “Eternal gratitude. My heart is overflowing with it. I want to thank every single one of you who purchased a ticket to view Sinners. Who chose to drive to watch the film in various formats. Who bought snacks and beverages, arranged for babysitters and shared rides, and lingered in the lobby afterward to chat and make a friend. Who adjusted their work schedules. Who viewed the film in groups. I want to thank all of you who watched more than once, who recommended the film to others, both in person and on social media or through your text message threads. ”

Sinners experienced a surge at the box office over the weekend with an estimated $48 million, surpassing A Minecraft Movie. The film’s achievement followed positive reviews and audience reactions.

The director stated, “I had the privilege of the chance to create a film influenced by my family and my heritage, but it was always a film that we aimed to make for viewers, in theaters. We consistently focused on you, the audience, and felt a profound obligation to entertain you, and touch you in ways that only cinema can. ”

The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director additionally expressed, “I have faith in cinema. I have faith in the theatrical experience. I believe it is an essential foundation of society. That’s why I and many of my peers have devoted our lives to the craft. We cannot do what we do if you don’t attend. The worldwide theatrical audience has enabled me to dream, pursue a career, and create a more sustainable life for myself and my family. And the only way that I know to express my gratitude for that, is by continuously drawing from my personal human experiences and my connections for more stories to share with you in cinematic form. Witnessing your reaction to the film has energized me and many others who hold this art form in high regard. ”

While writing the script, Ryan remarked that he also “boldly reached towards my cinematic inspirations,” going on to name icons, including Spike Lee, John Singleton, Ernie Barnes, Steve McQueen, Ava DuVernay, Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, Jordan Peele, David Cronenberg, David Lynch, Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas, Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, and Stephen King, among numerous others.
