Earlier there were reports making the rounds that Diljit Dosanjh will be joining Sunny Deol in Border 2, much to the excitement of the fans. Now, Varun Dhawan and the veteran actor have confirmed that the Punjabi rockstar will indeed play a "fauji" in Anurag Singh's film.
Official announcement video released
The duo dropped an announcement video on their social media pages in which they shared that Dosanjh is joining the Border 2 Battalion. The film will premiere on the big screen in 2026, and the wait is nearly two years now.
Check out the video below:
Deol is making a triumphant return with a sequel to his 1997 blockbuster Border, following last year's smash hit Gadar 2. The makers of the highly anticipated sequel have assembled an amazing pan-India cast to support their claim that it is India's biggest war film. Deol is returning as Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, while Dhawan is the new addition to the cast.
Diljit Dosanjh's role in Border 2
Peeping Moon earlier revealed that Dosanjh has joined Border 2. This Indo-Pak war drama will see the singer-actor reprising his role as a real-life character. Although details about his character are still under wraps, Dosanjh is excited about the opportunity to portray a real-life army officer and will soon begin preparing to fully embody the role.
Given Dosanjh's history of working with Border 2 director Anurag Singh, his casting in the sequel is hardly shocking. After two Jatt & Juliet films, Disco Singh, Punjab 1984, and Super Singh, they have collaborated on five films in the past 12 years, with the Border sequel being the only continuation of their cooperation.
The entertainment portal also reported the alleged casting of Suniel Shetty's son, Ahan Shetty. There were rumours that Ammy Virk would also be joining the project, but it is now unknown whether he is actually involved or if Dosanjh will play the role that was originally meant for him.
Plot rumours and Anurag Singh's direction
The creators have not disclosed much information about Border 2. However, rumours in the media suggest that it coincides with the events of Border 2. Part two would supposedly detail the Longewala Battle from the vantage points of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. J.P. Dutta directed the original film in 1997, but Anurag Singh, renowned for directing Kesari starring Akshay Kumar, will direct the sequel.
The film's production will start in November 2024, with a target theatrical release on Republic Day weekend in 2026. It is presently in pre-production.
