J P Dutta's Border recently completed 27 years since its theatrical release. On this occasion, the makers announced Border 2 with Sunny Deol. An official announcement was made in June this year. It was recently reported that Varun Dhawan had joined the film's star cast. And now, the Bollywood actor has confirmed being a part of 'India's biggest war film' Border 2. Varun penned a heartfelt note about being a part of the film.

Varun Dhawan comes on board for Border 2

Varun Dhawan shared an announcement video about him joining the Border 2 star cast. While sharing the same, the actor recalled he was just a kid in class four when he saw the 1997 film Border. He remembered the sense of national pride people felt in the cinema hall. "I began looking up to our armed forces and to this day, I salute how they protect us and keep us safe be it on our borders or during natural calamities (sic)," wrote Varun.

The actor further mentioned, "J P Dutta sir’s war epic remains one of my most favourite movies to this day.To play a part in Border 2 produced by J P sir and Bhushan Kumar is a very, very special moment in my career. And I get to work with Sunny Paaji my hero makes it all the more special (sic)." Varun added that he is looking forward to bringing a valiant jawaan's story to the screen with Border 2.

Varun's co-star Sunny Deol welcomed the actor to the battalion of Border 2. "Welcoming Fauji varundvn to the Battalion of Border2 (sic)," Sunny captioned his IG post.

More about Border 2 and its release date

While the 1997 film Border was directed by J P Dutta, the second installment will be helmed by filmmaker Anurag Singh. Produced by J P Dutta, Nidhi Dutta, Bhushan Kumar, and Krishan Kumar, Border 2 is scheduled for a theatrical release on January 23, 2026.
