The second film directed by Tharun Moorthy, Saudi Vellakka, took home the prestigious 70th National Film Awards for Best Malayalam Film and Best Singer (Female) this year. The film is available on Sony LIV in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi in addition to Malayalam. Based on a true tale, the movie revolves around a set of people who had to face the consequences of the lengthy verdict-giving procedure in the country's legal system.
The protagonist of Saudi Vellakka is an old woman named Aisha who, in a fit of wrath, hits a small boy. The boy's family files accusations against the mother after her neighbour encourages them to do so, and things swiftly get out of hand. This makes Aisha's family fight the matter, but the court didn't rule for over ten years. This film, which debuted in theatres in December 2022, stars Lukman Avaran, Sujith Sankar, and Binu Pappu in significant roles.
