Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava is among the most eagerly awaited films of the year, generating considerable excitement that is anticipated to translate into strong box office results. Fans have even more cause for celebration, as the film will also be released in IMAX format. Indeed, the producers of this Kaushal-led project have confirmed the addition of this format for its release. However, this development introduces a new competition at the box office, as Chhaava will now go head-to-head with the re-released film Interstellar. Here is all the pertinent information.

Chhaava vs Interstellar IN IMAX

In announcing the IMAX release of the film featuring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, the creators shared on Instagram: "Experience the courage, honor, and unyielding spirit of the Hindavi Swarajya like never before! Vicky Kaushal brings history to life in Chhaava, a narrative of strength, valor, and sacrifice—best appreciated in IMAX. Glory awaits. Epic battles unfold. History roars. In cinemas February 14."

This means that the film will now compete directly with Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan. The English science fiction film was re-released in India on February 7, 2025, and has already made a strong impression at the box office. Advance ticket sales also suggest a robust performance. Therefore, when Chhaava premieres next week, it will need to find its footing amidst the excitement surrounding Interstellar.

Originally released in 2014, Interstellar features a remarkable cast, including Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Timothée Chalamet. The film depicts a future in which Earth is no longer habitable, and ex-NASA pilot Joseph Cooper is assigned to lead a mission with a team of researchers to discover a new planet for humanity (as noted on IMDb).

Interstellar Re-release Box Office Day 1

The acclaimed science fiction film Interstellar made its return to Indian cinemas after an 11-year hiatus, premiering once again on February 7, 2025. Following its first day of screenings, reports from Movie Talkies indicate that the film garnered ₹2.50 crore nett and ₹3 crore gross on its opening day of re-release, marking a remarkable achievement.

In comparison, Interstellar has surpassed the box office performance of both Badass Ravi Kumar and Loveyapa, despite these being newly released films. Furthermore, it has significantly influenced the trend of re-releases, outshining previous leading titles in India.

Recently, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani attracted attention with its re-release, earning ₹1.15 crore nett on its opening day. Similarly, Tumbbad, another successful re-release, achieved ₹1.50 crore on its first day. However, Interstellar has outperformed both, accumulating nearly ₹1 crore more than Tumbbad.
