26 years have gone since Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta featured in a now-cult classic, Soldier. The film has been fodder to Internet memes over the years for its picturisation and also the usage of technology, which people tease as "way ahead of its time." Interestingly, Soldier also marked the second film of Preity in her debut year after Dil Se... Tips Industries produced the 1998 action thriller Soldier, which Sachin Bhowmick and Shyam Goel scripted under Abbas Mustan's direction. The film has supporting characters played by Rakhee Gulzar, Farida Jalal, Suresh Oberoi, Dalip Tahil, Sharat Saxena, Salim Ghouse, and Ashish Vidyarthi.
The plot of Soldier
In Soldier, the mafia kills Army Major Vijay Malhotra (Pankaj Dheer), and his unscrupulous coworkers wrongly accuse him of being a traitor. As a soldier, his son Vicky (Bobby Deol) swears to clear his father's name and exact revenge for his father's death. He embarks on a journey to Australia to fulfil his assignment, but if he harbours feelings for Preity Zinta, the daughter of a wealthy and influential mafia don (Suresh Oberoi), his plans could unravel.
Soldier debuted on November 20 and went on to earn more than any other film that year, second only to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. A 2000 remake called Jamin Nai and a 2009 Tamil remake called Villu were both based on the same film.
Anu Malik's chart-topping music
Many people enjoyed the music that Anu Malik composed for the film. It was a pivotal moment that shaped the destiny of the film. Tracks such as Tera Rang Bale Bale, Soldier Soldier, Hum To Dil Chahen, Mere Dil Jigar Se, and Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aye contributed to the album's success, which ranked third in 1998 behind Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Dil Se... Sameer penned the song's lyrics.
You can stream Soldier on various OTT platforms, namely JioCinema (OTTplay Premium), Prime Video, and ShemarooMe (OTTplay Premium).
