Bheema out on OTT: Where to stream Duniya Vijay’s crusade against drug abuse

Kannada actor-filmmaker Duniya Vijay’s Bheema, his follow-up to his 2021 debut directorial Salaga, was, yet again, a tale set in Bengaluru’s underworld. The film released in theatres on August 9, at a time when the industry was in a terrible slump, with audiences shunning theatrical releases, no matter the feedback. Bheema, which was rated A for the violence and language used, opened to mixed reviews, but, interestingly, enough, managed to strike a chord with its core audience, becoming a runaway hit.
The good box office showing also meant that Bheema landed an OTT deal soon enough. While Salaga had been picked by SunNXT and was made available to stream months after the theatrical outing, this time around Vijay has got his film on everyone’s choice – Amazon Prime Video. The film began streaming as of September 6, in time for the Gowri-Ganesha festival holiday.
The plot of Duniya Vijay's Bheema
Bheema has Vijay in the title role and follows his beef with local thug Dragon Manju, who has been flooding the neighbourhood with drugs. The former protégé of Bheema’s boss/adoptive father, Manju started off as a small-time weed peddler, but graduated to more hard-core stuff over the years, much to the chagrin of Bheema.
How Bheema deals with Manju, with the support of a fierce police officer, to root out his menace is what the film is about. Bheema saw Vijay work with a cast of mostly newcomers, with Priya Shatamarshan, as the lady cop Girija, getting some of the best lines in the film. Charanraj’s music was also quite the highlight.
Vijay gave his fans some more good news on the occasion of Gowri habba, announcing his next directorial, City Lights, in which he will introduce his daughter Monisha to cinema. The youngster had spoken of her desire to become an actress, for which she had adopted the stage name Rithanya, but it seems she finally decided to go with her original name after all.
As for acting gigs, Vijay has a film with Kaatera writer Jadesha K HAmpi in the works, in which Raj B Shetty has a pivotal role. There’s also an untitled film to be directed by RR Vetri Vel.
