Even after the group from The Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) finally managed to pull off their heist, that's far from the last chapter. Berlin is a spin-off series created by Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato of Money Heist that follows the figure Berlin (Pedro Alonso) before he hostages the Royal Mint of Spain. The title figure of Berlin's first season, played by Alonso, Julio Peña Fernández, and Begoña Vargas, tries to pull off one of his most spectacular heists to date. 

Exploring Berlin's golden age

Pina informed Netflix that the series transports audiences to the character's "golden age," a period characterized by his intense romantic involvement and his bank heists across Europe. Production for Season 2 of Berlin has officially commenced, with the setting shifting to Spain instead of Paris, and it will include both returning and new characters.

Return to the topic of Money Heist. In the original series, a gang of random individuals collaborates under the direction of The Professor (Álvaro Morte) to steal from the Royal Mint of Spain. Berlin is responsible for carrying out this plot. Next, we have Berlin, set in the younger years of the titular character and referenced in flashbacks throughout the latter seasons of Money Heist.

Berlin's motivation and latest heist

Love and a windfall of one million dollars are the only things that can make a terrible day better, according to Berlin. That's the driving force behind his ambitious ambitions. Therefore, he is planning a daring heist—the disappearance of gems valued at $44 million. In Paris, Berlin and a seasoned crew plan to pull off a daring heist unlike any other. Is that their strategy? It took one magnificent afternoon to steal sixty-three royal gems from thirty-four cities.

Pedro Alonso plays the role of Berlin, a master thief and plotter. Gogoña Vargas plays the role of Cameron, a carefree individual who lives life on the edge, and Julio Peña Fernandez plays the role of Roi, a locksmith and Berlin's loyal companion. The cast includes Michelle Jenner as cybersecurity genius Keila, Tristán Ulloa as engineer, scientist, and chemist Damián, and Joel Sánchez as gadget and weapon whiz Bruce.

Berlin's personality and philosophy

Alonso said in an interview with Netflix that he has heard a lot about Berlin being cynical. He is not cynical; rather, he is sardonic and possesses a dark sense of humour that can be both interesting and downright nasty. Despite all obstacles, he remains determined to find love and rediscover the joys of life. Despite defying logic and common sense, he manages to find love. 

Berlin, played by Alonso, will be reunited with his complete cast: Keila, played by Jenner, Damián, by Ulloa, Cameron, Peña Fernández, and Bruce, played by Sánchez. 

New cast members for Season 2

This season introduces several new cast members, including Inma Cuesta, who takes on the role of Candela, a passionate woman from Seville. José Luis García-Pérez portrays the quirky and indulgent duke of Málaga, Álvaro Hermoso de Medina. Additionally, Marta Nieto plays the mysterious and sophisticated duchess of Málaga, Eugenia Dante.

The upcoming heist in the narrative of this second season will unfold in Seville, Spain. The filming locations span various Spanish cities, such as Madrid, Seville, and San Sebastián.
