Ben Is Back on OTT

Ben Is Back follows 19-year-old Ben Burns (Lucas Hedges), who unexpectedly returns to his family's suburban home on Christmas Eve. His mother, Holly (Julia Roberts), is relieved yet cautious about Ben's sobriety. Over the course of a turbulent 24 hours, new truths come to light, and Holly’s unwavering love for her son is put to the test as she fights to keep him safe. The film also stars Courtney B. Vance (The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story) and Kathryn Newton (Lady Bird).

Directed by Peter Hedges, Ben Is Back features an ensemble cast, including Julia Roberts, Lucas Hedges, Courtney B. Vance, and Kathryn Newton. While the exact release date on Lionsgate Play is not yet confirmed, it is expected to be available in October. The film will also be accessible to those with an OTTplay Premium subscription once released.

Julia Roberts on Ben Is Back

Julia Roberts was deeply moved by the film's subject and eager to work on a project directed by Lucas Hedges’ father, Peter Hedges. Roberts expressed how Ben Is Back presents a complex portrayal of addiction, pointing out that it’s not just about one person or one issue.

In an interview with NPR, Roberts stated, “It's fascinating how he [Peter Hedges] points the finger in all directions, where you realize it's not just one person, ever. It's not the person's fault who's addicted; it's not the person's fault who raised the person who's addicted. I think it does help people see it for what it is — this monster that you don't know what direction it's coming from.”
