Filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon, who was a part of Mammootty’s upcoming film Bazooka as an actor, described the experience as unforgettable. The film, shot with sync sound, gave him plenty of lines, making it a significant learning experience and a great way to break the ice while working alongside Mammootty. However, when the opportunity arose to act with the Malayalam superstar once again in Dominic and the Ladies' Purse, Gautham decided to step aside.

"Since Mammootty sir was producing the film, he had significant input regarding the casting choices," Gautham Vasudev Menon shared. "There were a couple of roles where the direction team thought I’d be a good fit. I clearly told them that if it meant being on camera with Mammootty sir, I wouldn’t do it—I was too scared. Any other cameo would be fine, though." When asked if he would appear in Dominic and the Ladies' Purse, Gautham smiled, leaving it to the audience to find out when the film releases on January 23.

The film, which began production in July 2024, was the fastest Gautham has put together, contrasting sharply with his more laid-back approach to filmmaking. Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse was shot in an almost continuous 45-day schedule, with only a two-day break. "I made a Tamil film in 52 days, but that was spread over a year. In Malayalam cinema, you shoot every day, even on Sundays, whereas that culture isn't as prevalent in Kollywood. The only break I got during this film was due to rain, which halted shooting for two days. I actually enjoyed that brief respite, even though the making of Dominic and the Ladies' Purse was incredibly interesting," Gautham explained in a chat with One 2 Talks.

Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse marks Gautham Vasudev Menon’s directorial debut in Malayalam cinema. Produced by Mammootty Kampany, the film also features an ensemble cast including Gokul Suresh, Sushmitha Bhat, Shine Tom Chacko, Lena, Viji Venkatesh, and others.
