The world is currently buzzing about a new show that has dropped on Zee5, made in Pakistan by filmmaker Asim Abbasi. Yes, we’re talking about Barzakh, starring Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed in the lead, alongside a stellar cast of talented Pakistani actors. The show addresses themes relevant to the real world, while also weaving in mystic elements, including a marriage that could destroy the world. Although Barzakh has been widely loved by viewers across the globe, it has faced some backlash in its homeland due to its portrayal of homosexuality, leading certain sections to call for a ban. While the creators are dealing with this controversy, another surprising aspect has come to light—the remuneration received by the stars.
Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed's Salaries
Barzakh was highly anticipated from the moment it was announced, especially because it marked the reunion of Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, who previously starred together in the cult classic Zindagi Gulzar Hai. Expectations were high, and fans eagerly awaited its release. Now that the show has landed on Zee5, viewers are relishing it. However, what might surprise many is that the remuneration the two stars received is not as massive as one might expect.
According to Filmibeat, as Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed reunited for Barzakh after 12 long years, it was assumed to be an expensive affair. However, reports suggest that Fawad Khan charged between Rs 3 to 5 lakhs (PKR) per episode of the Asim Abbasi show. Considering the show comprises six episodes, his total earnings amount to around Rs 30 lakhs (PKR). As for Sanam Saeed, she reportedly charged Rs 2.45 lakhs (PKR) per episode, bringing her total earnings to Rs 14.7 lakhs (PKR).
About Barzakh
The story revolves around the King, Jafar (Salman Shahid), who is getting married to the ghost of his first lover, Mahtab (Anika Zulfikar). The Land of Nowhere calls upon his sons, Shehryar (Fawad Khan) and Saifullah (M. Fawad Khan), along with his grandson Harris (Syed Arham), to attend a night of mysticism and reunion. As the King sits on the graves of his ancestors, who yearn to be freed, the villagers seek their own freedom. The reunion of lovers from two different worlds threatens to engulf the real world—but do the lovers or the King care? Barzakh is a tempting place to be.
Barzakh has garnered an audience that appreciates and aligns with Asim Abbasi's artistic vision. The show is indeed a piece of art.
