Barroz to Rifle Club: Most-awaited Malayalam theatrical releases in December 2024

2024 undoubtedly has been one of the most exciting years for Malayalam cinema with back-to-back impressive films that also performed well at the box office. The last month also has some interesting films lined up to end the year on a high note. From Mohanlal’s directorial debut Barroz to Aashiq Abu's Rifle Club, here are the most-awaited Malayalam theatrical releases in December 2024.

Malayalam films releasing in December 2024

Barroz

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s much-anticipated directorial debut Barroz is all set to release on December 25, 2024. Mohanlal has also acted in this movie. The children’s fantasy film faced many delays and postponements. Renowned filmmaker Fazil had recently announced the Christmas release date and also revealed that December 25 is special since Mohanlal’s debut film Manjil Virinja Pookkal (1980), and Manichitrathazhu (1993) were also released on the exact same day. 

Marco

Unni Mukundan-starrer Marco will hit the theatres on December 20, 2024. Marco, directed by Haneef Adeni, is a spin-off of the 2019 film Mikhael. Jagadish will play the antagonist in Marco, which promises high-octane action sequences. The film will also mark the debut of Abhimanyu Thilakan, the grandson of Thilakan.

Rifle Club

Filmmaker Aashiq Abu's Rifle Club, starring Dileesh Pothan, Anurag Kashyap and Vani Viswanath in pivotal roles, is set to release on December 19, 2024. This film also marks Vani Viswanath’s comeback to Malayalam cinema after a hiatus. Apart from the lead cast, the film also features Darshana Rajendran, Hanumankind, Surabhi Lakshmi, Vijayaraghavan and Unimaya Prasad.

ED

Suraj Venjaramoodu's ED - Extra Decent is set to hit the theatres on December 20, 2024. The film, touted to be a comedy entertainer, also features Grace Antony, Shyam Mohan, Vinaya Prasad, and Sudheer Karamana in key roles. Suraj Venjaramoodu has also co-produced the film with Listin Stephen.

Ponman

Basil Joseph, who once again wooed audiences with Sookshmadarshini, will be seen next in Ponman, which is likely to hit theatres in the second week of December. But an official release date is yet to be announced. Directed by Jothish Shankar, the film also features Lijomol Jose, Sajin Gopu of Aavesham fame and Deepak Parambol, among others.
