Barroz, directed by Mohanlal, is one of the most eagerly awaited Malayalam films of 2024. The movie's makers are currently facing legal issues related to copyright infringement, which has fans wondering if the trailer and theatrical release of the film will be postponed.

Copyright infringement allegations on Barroz

George Thundiparambil, a German-Malayalam writer, has accused the makers of Barroz with violating copyright. He brought this to the attention of the Mohanlal directorial's producers by serving them with a legal notice. It is asserted that George's 2008 novel Maya and the narrative of Barroz share a number of similarities. However, more information regarding the complaint is still pending, and a statement from the producers is anticipated shortly.

Barroz set to release on September 12

September 12 is when the 3D fantasy movie, which has had several postponements for different reasons, is supposed to premiere in theatres. The movie's trailer is expected to be released on 6 September at an Abu Dhabi event, based on current reports. The new information was greatly appreciated by the Malayalam superstar's fans, who had been anxiously awaiting word on the movie to know more about the cast and crew.

As was previously mentioned, Barroz started in 2021, immediately following the first wave of the pandemic, with a different star cast. It was anticipated that many well-known Malayalam actors, including late actor Pratap Pothen and Prithviraj Sukumaran, would play significant roles in the film. The director then decided to scrap the scenes that had already been filmed and start over with a fresh cast. The original release date of Barroz was set for March 28, but it was postponed due to longer than anticipated post-production work. Its Onam release date was recently confirmed by the makers.

Bankrolled by Antony Perumbavoor, the film is purportedly produced with state-of-the-art technology on a budget of Rs 100 crore. In the film, Mohanlal reportedly portrays a 300-year-old guardian ghost who watches over Vasco Da Gama's treasure.
