Mohanlal, the Malayalam superstar, is finally ready to unveil his 3D directorial debut after six years of hard work. Unfortunately, it had a short theatrical run of just about a month and didn’t manage to make back its budget.

Disney+ Hotstar has announced that the film will soon be available for streaming in five languages: Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. However, it’s still unclear if it will also be released in Marathi and Bangla.

The film, which came out exclusively in 3D, is a kids' fantasy story centered around a ghost whose job is to guard the treasure of Portuguese emperor Da Gama until his rightful heir shows up to claim it. This all unfolds nearly 300 years after he was cursed and imprisoned, when a Portuguese teen named Isabella arrives in Goa with her dad, planning to turn the palace into a casino.

Barroz is set to hit Disney+ Hotstar in the last week of January, timed to launch with the Republic Day weekend. This means the film, which premiered in theaters on December 25, will have had a month-long run in cinemas.

The movie, made on a budget of over Rs 100 Cr, only managed to pull in about Rs 25 Cr globally, marking it as one of the biggest flops in Mohanlal’s career.

Barroz is set to drop on OTT, and at the same time, Aashirvad Cinemas will be showcasing a bunch of Mohanlal’s upcoming projects, including the highly anticipated trailer for L2: Empuraan. Before that, Mohanlal’s next film, Tharun Moorthy’s Thudarum, is scheduled to hit theaters on January 30.
